[Provincial Forestry Bureau] Macaques were photographed for the first time in Zibaishan National Nature Reserve, Shaanxi Province

In the video, this macaque is 50 or 60 centimeters long, with brown head and back, pale yellow belly, agile and powerful movements, and is eating wild fruits under a tree. Experts identified it as a macaque.

Macaques belong to the national second-class protected wild animals. They mainly live in the valleys beside streams and in the dense forests on the banks of rivers or in the sparse forests and rocky mountains. They feed on leaves and wild vegetables, and also eat birds, eggs and insects. Mankind’s indiscriminate hunting is the main factor of macaques’ danger.

"I have worked here for more than 30 years, and this is the first time I have seen a macaque." Wu Yong, the stationmaster of Wenjiang Temple Protection Station in Zibaishan National Nature Reserve, Shaanxi Province, said that in recent years, the nature reserve has continuously increased the protection of wild animals and plants by improving infrastructure construction, strengthening patrol project construction, protection management project construction and public education project construction, and the number of wild animals and populations has gradually increased, and the biodiversity has been significantly improved.(Reporter: Shen Dongxuan)
